BRB, I’m Doing Hot Girl Shit (And No, It’s Not What You Think)

The older I get, the more I realize that “hot girl shit” has absolutely nothing to do with being hot.

I know. Kind of disappointing, right?

Somewhere along the way, social media convinced us that being a “hot girl” meant having the perfect body, the perfect wardrobe, the perfect apartment, and enough disposable income to casually fly to Miami whenever life got stressful. For a while, I think a lot of us bought into that idea. We looked at women online and assumed confidence was something they had figured out that we hadn’t. That one day we’d wake up feeling like those girls if we just lost the weight, got the promotion, found the relationship, or finally got our lives together.

The problem is that I’ve met a lot of confident women over the years, and almost none of them fit that picture.

The women I admire most aren’t the women with perfect lives. They’re the women who do things before they feel ready. They’re the women who buy the concert tickets, take the trip, wear the outfit, start the business, or say yes to something that sounds fun even though it scares them a little.

Maybe that’s why I love the phrase “hot girl shit” so much.

To me, hot girl shit isn’t about looking a certain way. It’s choosing yourself. It’s ordering dessert without feeling guilty. It’s taking the PTO day. It’s booking the trip. It’s signing up for the class. It’s spending less time worrying about whether you’re allowed to do something and more time actually doing it.

And honestly, I think women are taught to feel guilty for that far too often.

We’re expected to be responsible. Practical. Selfless. Productive. Every purchase needs a reason. Every hobby should somehow become a side hustle. Every minute of our day should be optimized. Somewhere along the way, we stopped allowing ourselves to do things simply because they make us happy.

Maybe that’s the real rebellion.

Not quitting your job and moving to Bali.

Not becoming an influencer.

Just deciding that your happiness deserves a seat at the table too.

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to do the thing you’ve been talking yourself out of, this is it.

Book the trip.

Wear the outfit.

Take the class.

Say yes to the adventure.

Stop waiting for permission.

Part two coming soon, because there’s something I’ve noticed after photographing hundreds of women that completely changed the way I think about confidence.
